Saturday 5th December 2009. Climate Emergency Copenhagen / The Wave
This December in Copenhagen, the UN Climate Summit will be trying to agree a binding global treaty to hugely reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. The best deal currently on the table gives us only a 50% chance of avoiding two degrees of warming; the critical point where positive feedback effects kick in and runaway climate change becomes inevitable. This has led the Campaign against Climate Change to declare Climate Emergency Copenhagen.
On 5th December, just before the start of the Summit, there will be a rally at 12pm at Hyde Park Corner, with the following demands:
10 % cuts by end 2010
A million Green Jobs by end 2010
Ban domestic flights
55 mph Speed limit - scrap the roads program
End Agrofuel use
This will be followed by a Wave of people from all walks of life, flowing through the streets of London to Parliament, calling on the government to Quit Dirty Coal, Protect the Poorest and Act Fair and Fast.
Coach transport from Swindon will be available - please contact Viv on viv@swindonclimate.org.uk or phone 01793 871513 to register your interest.
Want to cycle to the Wave? Join the Bristol and Swindon Blue Wave, supported by Christian Aid, Oxfam, the bishops of Swindon and Bristol and many more!
