Stop Climate Chaos, 4th November 2006

Swindon Climate Action Network and Friends of the Earth took a coach-load of people from Swindon and Marlborough to London on 4th November to join the Campaign against Climate Change rally outside the US embassy, and then marched to Trafalgar Square for the launch of the I-Count campaign. An initial attendance of ten thousand has been reported for the I-Count rally, which was then swelled by the twenty thousand arriving from Grosvenor Square, making this the largest climate change demonstration to date.

Speakers at the rallies included George Monbiot (listen), Caroline Lucas and Rob Newman (listen). Music was provided by Seize the Day (listen) and Razorlight. The UK Independent Media Centre has some more photos, including an awesome 360-degree panorama of Trafalgar Square full of people. (If you look at the far left side, bottom corner of this panorama, you will see several faces from Swindon & Marlborough!), and SwindonWeb has published some of Lynette's photos (scroll about half-way down the page to see them).

A video featuring George Monbiot's speech (9 minutes, 22 meg) is also available.

The Global Climate Campaign web site has a gallery of photos from all over the world, including London.
